Synopsis
In the highlands of northern Bhutan, 70-year-old Jigme Choden faces a pressing challenge: finding a successor to care for her beloved yaks. Haunted by the fear that her yaks will be sold to butchers after she passes, she pleads with her teenage granddaughter, Leki Zangmo, to take on the responsibility.
Leki, once drawn to the life of a yak herder, now finds herself torn. Parental disapproval, the allure of modern comforts, and the influence of social media leave her at a crossroads, uncertain about which path to choose.
Set against the rugged landscapes of Laya, The Last Yak Herder explores themes of self-discovery, the strength of family bonds, and the irresistible pull of the unknown.
